THE VOODOO BLUES SCALE

THE VOODOO BLUES SCALE.

This isn't a variation on The Blues Scale that I had ever heard of before, but I got an email asking if I planned to map out THE VOODOO BLUES SCALE.

I didn't know what that was, but I was curious, so I did some research and hear it is!

This is definitely something I will be playing about with in future.

THE VOODOO BLUES SCALE contains the intervals: 1,b3,4,b5,5,6.

So it closely related to the standard BLUES SCALE except it has a 6 in it rather than a b7.
Or if you prefer it's The Dorian Pentatonic with an added b5.

The free guitar scale diagrams below lay out THE VOODOO BLUES SCALE for you all over the neck and as the five interlocking positions that link together to let you play the scale any where on the neck in any key.

EDIT: If you like this mix of the standard Blues Scale and The Dorian Mode, then check out DORIAN ADD b5/VOODOO DORIAN 12/08/12

THE MIXOLYDIAN PENTATONIC SCALE

THE MIXOLYDIAN PENTATONIC SCALE...

This is a five note scale containing the intervals 1,3,4,5,b7.

Essentially The Minor Pentatonic Scale with a 3 rather than a b3.

It makes sense to refer to this as a "Mixolydian" Pentatonic, and I have seen it referred to most places as this, but the term is also used to described The Dominant Pentatonic Scale, (1,2,3,5,b7)

I have also seen this scale referred to as the "Indian Pentatonic Scale"

But what ever it's called it sounds really cool, to my mind more intensely happy than The Major Pentatonic or The Dominant Pentatonic.

Have a play around any how.
